چکیده

Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) is a large optimized stellarator (B=2.5T, V=30m) aiming at demonstrating the reactor relevance of the optimized stellarators. In summer this year (2015) W7-X will begin its first operation phase (OP1.1) with five inertially cooled inboard limiters made of graphite. Assuming the heat loads can be spread out evenly between the limiters, 1 second discharges at 2 MW of heating power could be run in OP1.1. The expected plasma parameters will be sufficient to demonstrate the readiness of the installed diagnostics and even to run a first physics program, albeit restricted to relatively short pulses, and limiter configurations. The diagnostics available for this first operation phase, including some special limiter diagnostics, and their capabilities are being presented. First EPS Conference on Plasma Diagnostics 1 ECPD 14-17 April 2015, Villa Mondragone , Frascati (Rome) Italy

Diagnostics development for quasi-steady-state operation of the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator (invited).

The critical issues in the development of diagnostics, which need to work robust and reliable under quasi-steady state conditions for the discharge durations of 30 min and which cannot be maintained throughout the one week duration of each operation phase of the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, are being discussed.

Wall Conditioning by ECRH and GDC at the Wendelstein 7-X Stellarator

Wall conditioning in magnetic controlled fusion devices is a common tool to improve plasma performance and discharge reproducibility [1]. It will be relied upon in the next W7-X operation phases (OP1.2 in 2017-2018 and OP2 starting in 2020) to control the surface state of the plasmafacing components (PFC) with the eventual aim of providing access to continuous discharge operation [2]. The super...

Bayesian experimental design of a multichannel interferometer for Wendelstein 7-X.

Bayesian experimental design (BED) is a framework for the optimization of diagnostics basing on probability theory. In this work it is applied to the design of a multichannel interferometer at the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator experiment. BED offers the possibility to compare diverse designs quantitatively, which will be shown for beam-line designs resulting from different plasma configurations. ...

The construction of the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator

The construction status of the large superconducting stellarator Wendelstein 7-X is reported. The manufacturing and tests of the main components are reviewed and major design tasks during the device assembly phase are summarized. The assembly is currently proceeding on three out of five assembly stands. Four out of ten magnet half-modules are completed. Major work packages are the electric and ...

A hybrid fluid–kinetic approach for 3D plasma edge transport in He-plasma at Wendelstein 7-X

Introduction The complex three-dimensional structure of the optimised stellarator Wendelstein 7-X can only partially be accessed by means of experimental measurements, as a consequence of the only quite limited number of measurements at distinct locations with different plasma crosssections and properties. This highlights the importance of precise modelling (i.e. numerical bookkeeping) as an ex...
